The Exodus official download lives at exodus.com/download. Every other “latest Exodus 2026” zip is a credential stealer until a SHA-256 match says otherwise.

Exodus does not publish a useful Chrome extension ID because the product you are installing is a desktop (or mobile) binary. Hash the file. Do not skip that because the UI looks familiar.

Do this now

  1. Fetch the installer from Exodus. Type exodus.com/download. Download the Windows .exe, macOS .dmg, or Linux AppImage Exodus offers there — not a renamed copy from a forum.
  2. Hash it here with the Exodus preset. Drop the file into the verifier. This page selects exodus_windows (switch to mac/linux in the dropdown). Compare to the catalog string and to the value Exodus publishes on that same download page.
  3. Install only on a match. Run the official installer. Exodus will create a local wallet. Write the recovery phrase offline. Exodus support will never ask you to paste it into Chrome.

Which Exodus file you actually downloaded

Desktop users grab a platform binary. Mobile users should stay in the App Store / Play Store listing opened from exodus.com — not an APK from a “mod” site.

File you havePresetWhat the hash proves
Windows .exe from exodus.comexodus_windowsIntegrity of that installer snapshot
macOS .dmg from exodus.comexodus_macIntegrity of that disk image
Linux AppImage from exodus.comexodus_linuxIntegrity of that AppImage
Random “ExodusPortable.zip”NoneTreat as malware; do not hash-and-hope
Closed source: a matching hash proves the file matches the published digest. It does not let you audit Exodus internals. Pair large balances with a hardware wallet.

What an Exodus checksum cannot do

Exodus is not open source. SHA-256 cannot show you hidden telemetry or a future auto-update. It only answers: is this the file whose digest we (and, separately, Exodus) published for this version.

If Exodus rotates a build and our catalog lags, trust the digest on exodus.com/download and paste it into the expected-hash box.

Mirrors and “download portals” are covered in GitHub release vs wallet mirror.

Catalog hash loads from WalletGuard’s wallet database. Confirm the same string on the developer’s signed release before you install.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the official Exodus download?

exodus.com/download. Type the domain. WalletGuard’s Exodus hub links there; we do not host the binary.

Does Exodus have a Chrome extension ID I should check?

The product people sideload as a fake is usually a desktop installer or a look-alike extension that is not Exodus. For the real desktop app, verify the file hash. Do not install a third-party “Exodus Chrome wallet.”

What if the SHA-256 does not match?

Delete the file. Re-download from exodus.com/download. If it still fails, stop — that is the hashes-do-not-match failure, not a “close enough” install.
